Cooking Club The Cooking Enrichment group uses the 7 Habits while reading recipes and cooking treats. We Begin with the End in Mind when we plan ahead to bring in the supplies and ingredients for each recipe. Before we begin cooking, we also Begin with the End in Mind by reading the recipe and knowing what our final product should look like. We are Proactive when we clean up our areas before, during, and after cooking to make sure we have a clean hands and a clean work space. We synergize and think Win-Win to make sure that everyone is included and has a chance to participate. If someone disagrees or needs help, we Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood so we can know where we can help each other. The best part of the Cooking Enrichment Group is when we get to Sharpen our Saws and eat the food we made and think Win-Win when we share our recipes and food with our friends and family.
Crafting for Others Club members think win-win and sharpen their saws by combining their love of crafting with their passion for giving to others. So far this year we have made place mats for the HEB Feast of Sharing, made cards for visiting veterans on Veterans Day and we even made wreaths to send to soldiers overseas who will not be coming home for the holidays. We hope to bring joy to many other people throughout the year with our crafts!
Culture Awareness Students synergized while working in a group learning about the different winter traditions for a particular country of their interest. We used Begin with the End in Mind because they all wanted to present a poster of their findings at this year's Community Fest. A lot of the students showed up at the Community Fest with their parents to not only share their posters, but also to Sharpen the Saw.
Inspirational Reflections In this group we will work with digital camera's and Google Chrome to create unique photos with inspiring quotes. We will offer these to our broadcast group for morning announcements, to our class teachers for leadership lessons, and create random posters to be the little inspiration in someone's day.
Kindness for a Cause Students will enrich their school, community, and personal lives by sharing kindness for different causes. Club members think win-win and sharpen their saws by combining their love of crafting with their passion for giving to others. We will focus on different ways to show and give kindness to others through creative use of our minds and hands. We will be donating Halloween candy to soldiers over seas, creating Valentine's decorations for a local retirement home, along with other fun ways of spreading kindness!
Here is a photo of two members that created some crafts and thank you letters for soldiers over seas for being so "sweet!" These girls will be donating and sending their Halloween candy for the soldiers!
The Kindness for a Cause Group collected leftover Halloween candy for our troops. We were able to fill up 92 gallon-sized bags plus we had 15 unopened bags of 200-300 pieces of candy each!!
Typing and Technology Students are learning correct typing skills through Learning.com online curriculum and games. Later in the year we plan to branch out and explore different google apps for education. Students will use their knowledge of technology to show leadership in their own education.
