2018-2019 This enrichment leadership activity is for students who’ve decided to pursue art outside the classroom. Our first meeting began with students discussing how they could use the Seven Habits while working ‘studio style’ on art projects of their own choosing. Making a sketch folder, each one decided several of the habits that would help them accomplish their individual art goals. Popular habits with these artists are synergizing, finding balance, being proactive and thinking win-win.
They love working individually; developing skills and exploring new opportunities, while becoming Leaders in Art!
2017-2018 Studio Art is for 4th and 5th graders who use the 7 Habits to set their own projects. They lead by being in charge, being responsible, helping each other and learning through experience. Individual students chose habits 1, 2, 4 and 7; with Habit 2, “Begin with the end in mind” being chosen most often when students wrote their goals and planned how to achieve them. This year’s service learning project for Studio Art is a memory project creating portraits of and for Haitian school children. Information about this is at memoryproject.org/haiti
